Create a sample box of lace sewing techniques to enable you to develop the confidence to create your very own lace masterpiece. Perfect for those who are keen to elevate their dressmaking and perhaps plan to sew for a special occasion, or even a trip to the races.
Lace comes in many colours and is always on the catwalks of London and Paris. It’s not just for brides - it’s wonderfully timeless and versatile for daywear too!
Spend a day in the studio, surrounded by fine fabrics, silk and laces, beads and crystals. It’s an inspiring setting where creativity flourishes.
You’ll learn skills that can be transferred to many other dressmaking projects such as:
How to choose the correct lace for your sewing project.
How to place and cut out your pattern in lace fabric.
Suitable interlinings and interfacings for lace garments.
How to set up a sewing machine for precision sewing.
How to machine stitch lace.
A couture lace seam which is almost invisible.
How to finish lace hemlines.
How to stabilise and make a beautiful bound neckline at the same time.
Lace decorative techniques - lace insertions, lace appliqué by hand and machine, lace fringing and wired lace. Some previous dressmaking experience is advisable.
You’ll leave at the end of the day with a box of samples of lace sewing techniques, illustrating how your new skills can be used to create beautiful couture clothes and a folder of notes to remind you, and details of Nottingham and French lace suppliers, so that you can source fabric for your own heirloom lace garment.
All materials and haberdashery are included.
Sewing tools and sewing machines are provided, but if you have a favourite pair of scissors etc bring them with you.
Skill Level: Intermediate - for dressmakers who have a good understanding of sewing techniques and are keen to refine their knowledge and begin working with more challenging fabrics.

Venue: The workshop is held in my studio, which is in an attic on the first floor overlooking Sugnall Walled Garden, a light-filled space where you’ll be surrounded by fabrics, laces, trimmings and haberdashery.
Tea or coffee, and delicious homemade cakes are included. Please bring a packed lunch with you.
