Couture Headband & Bows Workshop

Create your own accessory, perfect for winter parties and events, and even to brighten up every day!

A peek into my atelier

🎀 Sumptuous velvet, beads, sequins and crystals… headbands and bows, a needle and thread, and my beloved gold Kleins scissors – a little corner of my world. 🧵🪡✂️

A dark wooden tabletop in the sewing studio, with couture bows, fabric flowers, beaded trimmings and vintage brooches scattered upon it.

Just out of sight – an impressive mountain of creative muddle, a camera and a photographic light with a white umbrella on a stand, which, as it happens, is perfect for illuminating a sewing room on a rainy day!

I've been busy photographing the step-by-step instructions for the workbook that accompanies my Couture Headband & Bow Workshop. It's one of those lovely jobs that involves rummaging through boxes of vintage bits and bobs, playing with combinations of fabrics and ribbons, and rediscovering pretty little treasures I've collected over the years.

And I can’t be creative and tidy too! I’ve tried!

Create something special for the party season

There's something rather wonderful about creating an accessory that’s unique, and with the party season approaching, it's the perfect opportunity to make something a little special. Perhaps a sumptuous velvet headband with an elegant couture bow, a scattering of crystals or a touch of vintage sparkle.

I love how a beautifully made headband can transform an outfit. A simple black dress, a favourite silk blouse or even a velvet trouser suit can take on an entirely different look with the addition of a carefully chosen accessory.

And unlike so many things we buy for a special occasion, a handmade headband is something you can treasure and wear year after year. It's also a lovely way to explore sewing techniques without committing to a large dressmaking project.

Discover the pleasure of couture accessory making

In my Couture Headband & Bows Workshop, I'll guide you through the process of designing and creating your own bespoke headpiece, using beautiful fabrics, trimmimgs and embellishments.

You'll discover how to work with luxurious materials, create beautifully shaped bows and use traditional millinery techniques to give your accessory a professional finish.

There will be plenty of opportunity to experiment with different designs and embellishments, whether you prefer something understated and elegant or a headband with a little more drama.

Perhaps you'll choose a rich jewel-coloured velvet, a beautifully structured bow, or embellish with a vintage brooch, or  delicate beads and crystals.

A day to escape into a little sewing happiness

One of the things I love most about my workshops is seeing the confidence that comes from learning a new skill. The pleasure is in making those little decisions for yourself, taking time over the details and watching your design develop into something beautiful to wear.

And, of course, I'll be there every step of the way, sharing tips and techniques and my passion for sewing.

There's something wonderful about working with your hands, becoming absorbed in the details, losing track of time and creating something beautiful from a few carefully chosen materials.

My workshops are designed to give you the time and space to enjoy that process, in the company of other people who share your love of sewing and creativity.

You don't need to arrive with a finished design in mind. And you don’t need to be a skilled seamstress either, confident beginners are welcome too. Bring your curiosity, your enthusiasm and perhaps a favourite outfit you'd like to make an accessory for.

By the end of the day, you'll have created your very own beautiful headband or bow accessory, along with new skills and ideas to take into your future sewing projects.

Date: Saturday 7th November
